We are deeply saddened by the loss of Tropics in San Luis Obispo. They were a longtime part of the local pet community, and their absence is felt by many.
While we do not carry fish and will not be expanding into fish sales, we do have the ability to support former Tropics customers with feeder needs. We currently stock frozen blackworms (also known as bloodworms) and are actively working on bringing live blackworms in as well.
Our goal is to help fill the gaps where we can, support the community during this transition, and continue serving local pet owners with care and integrity.

We’ve made the decision to part ways with Cayucos Unleashed after realizing that our approaches to pet handling and sanitation simply did not align. At The PetHouse, we believe pets are family. They are never judged by breed, size, temperament, or appearance, and they are never handled harshly or rushed through stressful situations. Every animal deserves patience, compassion, and respect.
While we are not legally required to do so, we voluntarily follow the same sanitation and disinfection standards enforced by the State of California for human hair salons. Cleanliness, disease prevention, and safe handling are non-negotiable for us. After seeing firsthand how high-volume grooming salons operate, we have chosen to remain committed to our holistic, low-stress, one-on-one grooming philosophy that prioritizes the well-being of the animal over speed or profit.
We are still proudly offering full-service grooming, as well as our Saturday Nail Clinic.
Our focus remains the same: calm care, ethical handling, and professional standards that put pets first, always.
